This iconic sandwich is a classic American favorite that’s perfect for any menu. It features tender strips of beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese, all nestled into a soft roll. Preparation

  1. Prepare sandwich toppings

    • Heat a large frying pan, ideally cast iron, over medium heat. Heat vegetable oil in pan until it shimmers, then add the onion and peppers, and stir to combine. Cook, stirring every so often, until soft and brown, about 15 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper, remove and set aside.
    • Increase heat to high. Season meat generously with salt and pepper. Add steak to pan, working in batches if necessary, and cook until well browned but medium rare, about 4 minutes.
    • Reduce heat to medium and return onions, peppers, and mushrooms back to pan. Add prepared Knorr® Professional Ultimate Beef Bouillon Base. Stir to combine. Once liquid has been fully absorbed, turn heat to low and cover with sliced cheese. Using tongs and a wide spatula, stir and pull to combine as cheese melts, approximately 3 minutes.
  2. Assemble sandwich

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place sub rolls in oven to warm for about 3 minutes.
    • Remove rolls from oven and spread mayonnaise on the interior of each sub roll. Fill with a mixture of meat, vegetables, and cheese. Serve immediately.
    • TIP: Add a spicy twist by using Spicy Hellmann’s mayo.
